Happy Birthday! Now Die. Podcast of December 22 Show

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the The Federal Reserve, which is neither federal, nor a reserve! The Fed was in the news this week because outgoing chairman Ben Bernanke announced the beginning of the end for quantitative easing. I discuss these issues and more on this week’s show:

Hour 1
Hour 2

Here are some of the articles and other references that came up on the show:

My favorite book on the Fed, with the genius feature of chapter summaries so you can blow through the big picture in under two hours…awesome!

Here is my post with all the charts that show the destruction the Fed has wrought.

Here are a couple of articles that answer Eric’s points….
The Gold Standard and the Great Depression

Life with the Fed: Sunshine and Lollipops?

Here is the interview Bob recommended….

and the article…
100 Years Later, The Federal Reserve Has Failed At Everything It’s Tried

A caller recommended the video “Money Masters” and I think this is the one he was talking about…looks great!

What a wonderful caption!  What a Happy Birthday that would be! It shocks, but it should! I will have these printed and sent to the Fed, engraved in grey, on a black background!

I’m so glad your podcast is posted.  I will hear it today.  I had my recorder on for Hour 1, but paused it during commercials & forgot to push “Record” for Hour 2, though I did hear it.

Did you recognize the voice of “Twenty Questions”, my nickname for the caller, “Mike”? Wasn’t he the one who’s been asking you questions from right off the internet, that have nothing to do with anything?

You may be interested in this. I had responded to “Change.org” after seeing an item about animal abuse. Apparently Change.org sends out petitions on other issues as well.

This petition is written by an employee at Staples. I copied enough so you could get the gist of it, but will forward it to you in case you are interested.

Staples recently decided to cut part-time employees’ hours just so they won’t have to provide health care benefits under Obamacare. Staples is taking advantage of a loophole in the health care law that says employers don’t have to provide coverage for employees who work less than 30 hours a week. … Staples doesn’t want to provide health care to its employees — but there is hope. Other chain employers such as Darden Restaurants (owners of Olive Garden and Red Lobster) reversed similar cuts after intense public pressure….

    I wrote back:

I do not blame the companies; I blame Obamacare.  I think the petition should             be directed to The White House.

Then I received a message to the effect, ‘We cannot receive, we can only send.” I did not pursue it further.

It’s another “Obama Drama”. (You can use that if you want to!)

Give me extra time to get that picture made up. I’m “more than a little behind” (You can take that any way you like!)

Thank you for putting “my tree” on your phone!

    Gloria
